Agreement to Abide by Pitch Counts: Babe Ruth League

If your child will be playing in a non-SOM Baseball team this spring, in addition to a SOM Baseball rec team, please review this agreement. To indicate that you will adhere to it, fill out the fields at bottom and submit the form.  Or, you may download the form and e-mail your completed copy to Patti Coleman (pcoleman@southorange.org). Thank you.

In order to protect the arms of young players, SOM Baseball has strict rules about players who are playing for other teams.

Any player who is playing on a high school team during the SOM Baseball season is ineligible to pitch in SOM Baseball. This determination must be made now. Because this eligibility issue affects the draft, if a player leaves their high school team during the SOM season, or does not actually play for their high school team, they still remain ineligible to pitch in SOM Baseball.

Players who are playing for another team during the SOM Baseball season, other than a high school team, must submit this signed agreement stating that the player, and the player’s parents, agree

that the player’s total pitch counts, for ALL teams, shall not exceed the limitations set forth in the SOM Local Rules. A player who does not submit a signed agreement and is playing for another team is ineligible to pitch in SOM Baseball.

If a player who is ineligible to pitch in SOM Baseball pitches even a single pitch in a SOM game, the SOM game will be a forfeit.

During the spring baseball season, the below-named player will be playing baseball in the South Orange / Maplewood Cal Ripken Baseball League as well as for the below-named non- SOM Baseball team). Pursuant to SOM Baseball Local Rule 6.4, Player and Player’s parent/guardian agree to abide by SOM Baseball Local Rule 6 with respect to Player’s total pitching in SOM Baseball and the non-SOM Baseball team or league. Specifically, Player’s combined pitching in both SOM Baseball and Non-SOM Baseball shall not exceed the following limits:

  1. Player shall not pitch more than 75 pitches in any game, though they may complete an at-bat if their pitch count hits 75 during the middle of an at-bat.
  2. Player shall be required to have 1 Rest Day (as defined in SOM Baseball Local Rule 6.5) if their pitch count exceeds 20 on a single day, 2 Rest Days if their pitch count exceeds 40 on a single day, and 3 Rest Days if their pitch count exceeds 60 on a single day.
