Fields closed; online registration suspended
All online registration for recreation activities, including clinics and camps, is suspended as of MONDAY MARCH 16.
We want to thank everyone in our community for understanding what a trying time the coming weeks are going to be. The South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs in conjunction with village administration and health officials have decided to POSTPONE ALL programming, events, and meetings until further notice. In addition to changes to the department programs, we are closing all public playgrounds and advising everyone to refrain from engaging in group athletics. Until further note all registration will take place via phone, 973-378-7754 x2 or email recreation@southorange.org This will allow for our staff to go over any changes that may occur to the programming going forward.
We know this is a lot to process, and that you have a lot of responsibilities and concerns to deal with. Please keep in mind this is uncharted territory and there is no handbook on how to respond to these uncertain times. The health and well being of our community is of utmost importance, and we need to work together to get through this difficult time. We are a resilient community and we will continue to work with all of our partners to safely serve the public in any way possible.
We hope that people can embrace social distancing and engage in activities that allow for this. Walking in the parks, bicycle rides, going for jogs, and playing tennis are all great ways to get outdoors and exercise. Sports that require groups to play are not advised. At this time, the fields are not open to the public for group activities. The department and recreation and cultural affairs will still be available remotely. We will be handling all questions and concerns that may arise due to this postponement of programming. We hope to be back in full operation as quickly as possible to serve the public and continue our programs. Once again, we thank you for your understanding and flexibility. Please be safe and look after your friends and neighbors.
