Travel Program Details

2026 Travel Program

The 2026 SOM Travel Baseball Program consists of three connected seasons: Winter Training, Spring Season, and Summer Season.

Teams are expected to be offered at 8U through 13U, enrollment permitting. Our goal is to field two full teams per age level where possible.

Winter Training (Required)

Winter training establishes the foundation for player development and team cohesion and is required for all travel players.

  • Begins early December and runs through the winter
  • Held at local indoor facilities such as The Gym, Dingers, and the West Orange Armory
  • Two practices per week:
    • One day focused on hitting
    • One day focused on fielding and throwing
  • Each age group trains together
  • Led by professional coaches, selected in collaboration with parent coaches, the Boosters, and the Baseball Committee

Spring Season

  • Begins in early April and runs through early June
  • All travel players also participate in spring rec baseball.
  • Weekly commitment typically includes:
    • One practice per week
    • One game per week
  • Most teams participate in a competitive spring league (often USABL)
  • Spring travel is coordinated with the rec season, including attention to pitching and scheduling
  • Teams are led by parent volunteer coaches, with professional coaching support at older age levels

Summer Season

  • Begins in early June and runs through the third week of July
  • Weekly commitment typically includes:
    • At least one practice per week
    • Games and tournaments varying by team and age level
  • Summer competition is flexible and evolving, with teams participating in a mix of:
    • New Providence Green/Gold League (NPGL)
    • Ripken tournaments
    • USABL leagues or tournaments
  • Not all teams follow the same summer schedule or league path
  • Teams are primarily coached by parent volunteers, with professional coaching support for practices at older ages when available
